Apr 13, 2013 Greensboro, NC Public Library, Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Greensboro North Carolina USA
Mar 24, 2012 Upcountry Literary Festival Union South Carolina USA

Thanks again this year to Randy Ivey, John Crocker, and their competent and attentive staff for making the second annual Upcountry Literary Festival better in every way.  Last year was a terrific first effort, but this year was even better.  Great to see old friends Jim Kibler, Tom McConnell, Fred and Susan Chappell and others.  Poems, fiction, nonfiction, children's literature, a play, music . . . Wow!

Mar 1, 2012 Buddy Guy's Legends Chicago Illinois US

Another very successful AWP off-site Writers Who Play showcase!  What a treat to be able to play at the world renowned Buddy Guy's Legends!  Thanks to my partner Ken Waldman who did yeoman's work as MC, and especially to Will Jennings and Mike Dockins for providing able musical support to others.

Feb 17, 2012 Davis & Elkins College Booth Library Community Room Elkins West Virginia USA

Many thanks to Bill King of Davis and Elkins College, and Doug Van Gundy of West Virginia Wesleyan College for organizing a terrific event.  I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the students in their classes at Davis and Elkins, and the workshop I presented and my music and poetry performance were both well attended and very enjoyable.  Thanks, too, to Lynnell Edwards for the wonderful poetry reading at West Virginia Wesleyan and for her participation in the panel on "Literature and the Land" following my reading at Davis and Elkins.

Sep 12, 2011 University of Tennessee John C. Hodges Library Knoxville Tennessee USA

I was honored to be asked to read in the University of Tennessee's Writers in the Library series.  Katy, Teep, and I had a wonderful time.  I read some of my own poems, and then we performed several songs from The Service of Song.  The audience was very attentive, the venue excellent, and several old friends and people I greatly admire were in attendance.  Thanks to the Jack E. Reese Writer in Residence Jeff Daniel Marion for inviting me!

Sep 9, 2011 Carolina Mountains Literary Festival Burnsville North Carolina USA

The Carolina Mountains Literary Festival just keeps getting better and better.  My hat is off to the organizers and all their hard working volunteers.  It was a terrific schedule, with poet and fiction writer Ron Rash as the keynote speaker.  I love this festival, and I love Burnsville!

Jun 4, 2011 The Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Interpretive Center Young Harris Georgia USA

Katy, Teep, and I had a wonderful time at the Byron Herbert Reece Society annual meeting.  The Reece Farm and Interpretive Center is a fine facility, and will be even more impressive when it's completely finished and fully operational.  It's amazing how much progress has been made since the last time I visited several years ago.  Our thanks to everyone for the invitation to perform and for the terrific reception you gave us!

Apr 20, 2011 The Tipsy Teapot Greenville North Carolina US

Such a pleasant, enjoyable evening.  It was a rare treat to be on the bill with John Thomas York, a poet whom I admire, and a special pleasure to meet and share the bill with his uncommonly talented daughters, The York Sisters.  And I highly recommend The Tipsy Teapot in Greenville to one and all.

Apr 8, 2011 UNC Greensboro Faculty Center Greensboro North Carolina USA

Many thanks to Terry Kennedy, Jim Clark, and everyone at the UNCG MFA writing program.  Friday was a beautiful, sunny spring day; despite that, we had a great turnout and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  My good friend Katy Adams joined me on harmony vocals and 12-string guitar, and we had a wonderful dinner that evening at Southern Lights Bistro.  The poetry gods seemingly smiled on me yesterday, since I came down with a bad cold and sore throat Thursday, and today (Saturday) I have laryngitis and can barely speak.  Yesterday was perfect, though.

Mar 12, 2011 Upcountry Literary Festival Union South Carolina USA

I couldn't be more pleased to have been a part of the first annual Upcountry Literary Festival.  Headliners Robert Morgan and Kwame Dawes were both excellent, and the full-to-bursting program featured many other fine writers and performers.  It was one of the better literary events I've attended in some time.  Hats off to Randy Ivey, John Crocker, and their staff at USC-Union for their hard work and gracious hospitality!

Jan 16, 2011 WordPlay: The Laureate's Radio Hour Asheville North Carolina USA

I had a little trouble finding the Asheville FM studio, but everything worked out fine.  I thoroughly enjoyed the program.  My grateful thanks to NC Poet Laureate Cathy Smith Bowers and Asheville poet Jeff Davis for all they do to promote the art of poetry in North Carolina, and for an excellent dinner and good company afterwards!
